SF Zoo Design Recommendation

With the cooperation of the San Francisco Zoo, my classmates and I examined the design approach of the Zoo. We worked on research and ideation by observing the behavior of audiences on location and by reading books about relationship between humans and animals. We pitched a design plan where the playground engages the kids and the zoo. The prototype structure built in front of the penguin exhibit succeeded to evoke the experience of the mimicry by resembling the form of a penguin house. We were additionally surprised by the pleasant reactions of the audience: photo-taking.

San Francisco動物園の協力のもと、３ヶ月にわたって動物園へのデザインアプローチを試みた。ロケーション、人々の行動、動物と人間の関係など現場や書籍などからのリサーチとアイディエーションを経て、子供たちがより動物園という場所と関係をふかめることを誘導するためのプレイグラウンドのデザインを動物園側に提案した。プロトタイプとしてペンギンの前に設置した施設はペンギンが住む氷の建物を連想させ、予想通りこどもたちがペンギンの真似をしたり、また写真撮影の格好の場所となったりと予想以上の反響にも驚いた。
